Oh we do love Alexa Chung – for whether she’s channelling la mode Francais in a breton top avec high-waisters, or squelching around in Hunters and boho girlie dress – she is our stylie icon.

So imagine our shock when reading in this month’s Vogue that the 26-year-old is a big fan of matching denim with, erm, denim! I mean we love indigo ‘n’ all that, but not from head to toe darling. It’s a style crime usually reserved for men having a mid-life crisis and rappers with a penchant for ‘prison style indigo’, usually accompanied by chains strung from their pockets. Either way – it’s wrong, just WRONG!

But not so in Alexa’s world – mixing and matching denim hotpants with waistcoats, teamed up with mini cropped tops – sounds like just what we would wear, erm.

The model and TV presenter insists the denim fashion police need to go after only two offenders – Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.  ‘Do you recall the time when temporary American sweetheart Britney Spears and her purity partner Justin Timberlake innocently sauntered down the red carpet in matching denim outfits? Of course you do,’ Chung writes in the style bible Vogue.

‘It’s the only time denim has ever looked bad. Not long after this frayed catastrophe, Britney was to be found in wincingly low-slung bootcut jeans.. and the term “muffin top” was born.’
