Lilo’s media-whore of a papa has rubbished her claims that he is “nuts”.

The actress slammed papa Lohan earlier this week for his endless public requests for her to go to rehab – which he insists were only a bid to help his wayward daughter.

Michael Lohan said: “Is being concerned for your child and doing all you can, first privately, then publicly, nuts?! I say not, and I believe that any honest and loving parent would agree.

“Anyone and everyone who knows me knows I am far from nuts. As a matter of fact, I am considered quite the opposite. I may not have taken the right approach or handled myself in the right way at times, but I am a father and parent first.”

Michael insists that regardless of how much he is criticised by Lilo and her mother, his ex-wife Dina Lohan, he will continue to love and forgive the 23-year-old star.

He added to Hollyscoop: “People can knock me. Lie about me. Use me as a scapegoat and even have me arrested on false charges. But God knows the truth and so do they. At the end of the day, I love, forgive and make sacrifices without regard for myself. That will never change. Call me nuts all you want.”

Michael – who has repeatedly made public demands for Lilo to go to rehab to be treated for an alleged prescription drug addiction – was speaking after the actress said her father needed to seek help himself.

She said: “I’m not really speaking to him. Saying those things is the last thing that’s going to get me to speak to him and I’ve told him that.

“He’s nuts. He is someone who is crying out for help and attention. He is the one who should be in rehab. He has been on and off like this my whole life.”
