Trekkies get excited…the sequel is coming!

Still without a confirmed production start date, the ‘Star Trek’ sequel has been confirmed for a June 29, 2012 U.S. release.

J.J. Abrams, who directed the first film, has not yet signed up to helm the next flick, but will serve as a producer alongside Bryan Burk, Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.

Meanwhile, Bruce Greenwood, who plays original Enterprise captain Christopher Pike, told Hollywood.com he isn’t certain if he will return for the follow-up movie, saying:

“I just know that the plan is to film it in January. More than that, I don’t know. I hope [to come back]. I’m hustling for it… we’ll see…”
