Pop Mogul turns 50

Fri 2 Oct 2009

The man we all love to hate, but actually love…Mr Simon Cowell, turns the ripe old age of 50 tomorrow and it’s set to be a star-studded event with ‘extravagance’ being the key theme.

Leona Lewis, Il Divo and Westlife are all set to perform as well as supermodel Kate Moss, who is tipped to perform the Lily Allen song ‘It’s Not Fair’. X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke is also said to be keen to give Cowell a birthday surprise jumping out of a giant cake, although that’s just given away the surprise if you read this!

London based company Banana Split are the lucky event organisers and caterers chosen to help create the spectacular that will be Cowell’s 50th, including a cocktail tent, a dining marquee, a stage for performers and even a smokers tent for the chuggers! Sushi and traditional fare are on the menu as Cowell is said to prefer plain food which along with an array of cocktails, will be set against a backdrop of tables dressed in silver, crystal and linen and 6ft towers of hydrangeas, roses and white blooms.

There will even be a bit of camp thrown in, with Showgirls and boys (girls in swan outfits and feathers, boys in togas), swarming the party to add that little bit of dazzle, not unlike Cowell’s Hollywood teeth!

Amongst the 400 guests at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire will be Sir Philip Green (Owner of Topshop), who is joining forces with Cowell to set-up a new multi-million pound entertianment company, his wife Lady Green who took charge of organising Cowell’s 5oth, Cheryl Cole, Elton John and David Furnish, Paula Abdul, Donald Trump, Kevin Spacey and all of Simon’s exes, Sinitta, Jackie-St Claire and Terri Seymour.  The list of celebs goes on, but the Guest of Honour is said to be Cowell’s Mum, Julie (84) who herself started life in showbiz as a cabaret dancer.

Dress code is black tie and cocktails are from 8pm, see you there! (well it is 10mins down the road from me, so I’ll be parked up outside with the paps to get some exclusive piccies for Showbiz-i! ;-)
